Managing a Class

Your Home page of Classroom displays tiles of each class you have created. Additionally, you can access your classes from the Classroom Menu icon at the top left of the window, and select the class you wish to manage from the list. You can rename a class, delete a class, and access the folder in Google Drive for a class from each class tile. To make changes to a class, simply click on the name of the class, and follow the instructions below.

Change class theme and display your profile photo

When you have created a class, you can choose a theme, which includes the class image and color that is displayed for the class in the stream.

To change the theme from the default:

  1. Open the class and click Change class theme in the lower-right corner of the image.

  2. Select an image from the gallery and click the Select class theme button.

Note: At this time, only the teacher of a class can change the class theme.

You can also display a profile photo next to your name in both the class stream and on the class card on the home screen. Classroom uses your Gmail picture as your Classroom profile photo. Check out Selecting your Gmail picture for instructions on adding a photo.

Rename or delete a class

From the home screen, you can rename or delete a class using the Menu icon in the upper-right corner of the class card:

  • To rename a class, click the menu icon and select Rename

  • Enter a new name and click Save

  • To delete a class, click the Menu icon, select Delete, and click Delete

Note: There is no way to undo deleting a class. If you click Delete, you will no longer have access to any class posts or comments. However, you can still access the class documents on Google Drive.

Remove a student from a class

A teacher can easily remove a student or several students from a class at any time.

To remove a student:

  1. Sign in to Classroom at classroom.google.com.

  2. Click the class from which the student should be removed.

  3. Check the box next to the student you want to remove.

  4. At the top of the page, click Remove.

  5. The dialog box appears with the question: Are you sure you want to remove or uninvite the following student? displaying the student's name.

  6. Click Remove to delete the student from the class.

Change account settings

You can access both your Google Account settings and your Classroom notification settings on the Settings page in Classroom.

To open the Settings page:

  1. Sign in to Classroom at classroom.google.com.

  2. Click the main menu icon in the upper-left corner.

  3. Click Settings.

On the Settings page, you can unsubscribe from email notifications by unchecking the Send email notifications box. If you choose to unsubscribe, you will no longer receive emails when someone adds a comment to your posts. To learn more about filtering notifications in Gmail, check out Using filters. You can choose to subscribe to notifications again at any time from this same page.

Click the Google Account Settings link to change your password and security options and to access other Google services.
